SAKANA & SAKE chocott is a cozy little bar that opened in March 2024 in the Passage Plaza in Shinmachi, Aomori City. You can have a bit of drink with fresh local seafood dishes and local sake. The bar, with its at-home atmosphere and only six seats at the counter, offers an exclusive experience. Here, you can enjoy seasonal fish dishes prepared with care by the owner, along with a selection of craft beer brewed by Hotarubi Brewery and rare local sake from Aomori Prefecture.
The owner, Mr. Kimura was was born and raised in a family that was a fresh fish merchant. He has opened the restaurant he has always dreamed of, taking advantage of his fish expertise and personal connections. As his concept of “Gunkanmaki Bar” suggests, local’s favorite is the conical sushi served in cocktail glasses. Other snacks on the menu include sashimi and sea urchin of tuna directly shipped from the region, Aomori monkfish with yuzu miso, salted Hachinohe traditional Honzukuri squid, Kitayoro clams from Misawa, homemade Nanban miso and Dashi maki made with “Jyugoshiro Macallan egg,” an egg with an orange yolk.
The restaurant is well known locally as a place where you can casually enjoy exquisite sake pairings and a lunchtime drink while experiencing Aomori’s four seasons.
