“Hirosaki Walk” with the magic of apple pie and cidre

Writer Nozom

Hirosaki City boasts the most significant production of apples in Japan and is truly an apple kingdom!

Hirosaki is, therefore, naturally “apple” oriented.

Apple-related post boxes, guard rails, and even the train’s suspension straps are covered with apples.

Apples are delicious eaten raw, but they are also delicious in sweets and drinks.

I recommend apple pie and cidre.

Apple pie is an oven-baked pie filled with candied apples.

cidre is a fizzy fruit wine made from apples.

Why don’t you walk around Hirosaki, a city that makes you want to walk and promotes walkable urban development, and be enchanted by the magic of apple pie and cidre?

Two guide maps are necessary for this magic: “Hirosaki Apple Pie Guide Map” and “Hirosaki Cidre Map.”
Once you find your desired store, enter it into the map app, and let’s go!

Let’s start the “Hirosaki Walk.”

I recommend three stores.

cidre&café POMME/MARCHÉ (Pomme Marche)

VERDUVEINE

From JR Hirosaki Station, take a stroll to the Hirosaki Renga Soko Art Museum (Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art).

After a 15-minute walk, I arrived at the Brick building next to the Museum.

Of course, I ordered an apple pie. The apple pie here is served on a plate and shaped like an apple. The custard cream and sweetened apples are a perfect match. I recommend you go early as they are often sold out.

Don’t miss out on the great deals you can get with a set with a drink.

The other day, I enjoyed apple pie and a set of three cidres with a friend from Osaka.

I compared them mysteriously while checking the varieties of apples used to make the cidres. A friend from Osaka seemed very satisfied, saying, “I can’t experience anything like this in Osaka.” It was a unique and enjoyable experience.

The friend from Osaka was very excited.

Next I visited Pomme Marche.

This restaurant allows you to bring in your favorite apple pie purchased at any other restaurant if you order one drink.

So, I detour to Vervennes near Pomme Marche.

I step into Pomme Marché and inform the staff that I’ve brought an apple pie. Then they’ll give you a plate.

Of course, the pie goes with coffee, but this is Apple Kingdom; try the original cidre [éffrie], which results from the Pomme Marche owner’s passion for cidres.

The experience of tasting cidre with your favorite apple pie is truly a luxurious moment unique to Hirosaki.

I am tipsy and feeling great.

You might want another glass of cidre, won’t you? This is the magic of apple pie and cidre.

Toast with apple pie and cidre during the day. It would be fun if such a culture took root in Hirosaki.

While the sun was still bright, I sobered up and headed for Hirosaki Station.

A walk in Hirosaki gave me the special pleasure of discovering new stores!

I hope you will enjoy a walk as much as I did.
