SOBAIRO CHAYA
Soba Irochaya is a handmade soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant alongside Juni Lake, “Hakkei no Ike” in Fukaura-cho, Aomori Prefecture.
After training in Tokyo, the owner opened the restaurant after making a U-turn to his hometown. The soba noodles blend local Aomori buckwheat flour and Akita buckwheat flour and are carefully launched using spring water from the Shirakami Mountains. You can enjoy a menu of simple, ingredient-driven dishes such as Nihachi soba and Juwari soba.
The restaurant is housed in a renovated building that was once a ryokan (Japanese-style inn). Its spacious hall offers a beautiful view of the lake for you to relax and enjoy. From the tatami room, you seem to be floating on the lake. A retro Coca-Cola vending machine is also placed here, and the unique, stateless atmosphere that seems to be a mixture of different eras is also appealing.
The lunch set includes rice made with local ingredients and an exquisite small bowl of seasonal wild vegetables such as root-bending bamboo, royal fern, and mizu, which are also enjoyable and satisfying. Soba pudding, with its savory aroma, is also a trendy dessert.
It is a popular spot for local residents and tourists, open from spring through fall.
