Kabushima Shrine

Hachinohe-shi HISTORY NATURE

The red Torii gate, the shrine pavilion, and the countless petrels flying in the sky create a unique atmosphere that is somehow out of this world and is a sight to behold.

Kabushima Island is designated as a national natural monument as a breeding ground for petrels, and during the breeding season (March to August), the number of petrels is said to range from 30,000 to 40,000. Please note that you must use the umbrellas provided to avoid plumage from the civets when climbing the mountain.

According to shrine legend, Kabu-Shima Shrine began in 1706; on November 5, 2015, the shrine was tragically destroyed by fire, but it was rebuilt over a period of about five years with donations from all over Japan.

The shrine enshrines Benzaiten, a deity believed to bring blessings for safe fishing, prosperous business, and entertainment. It is said that if you visit the temple after circling the island three times, your body and soul will be purified, and you will receive power, offering a unique spiritual experience.

Another attraction is the Pokemon manhole installed in the Kabu-shima area. These manholes are located all over the country, and each one has a unique design. Why not look for one to commemorate your visit?
